Four Friends. Four Secrets.
When Lucy tells her friends they need break a from each other, Pippa, Colette and Christine are stunned - after all, Lucy is the quiet one, isn’t she?
As the four girls try to adjust to life without each other, none of them could have foreseen the consequences of mousy Lucy’s announcement that day in a swanky Belfast hotel…and as secrets start to come to light, the girls are all asking the same question: How well do you really know your friends?

My review...
The trials and tribulations of life never do run smoothly and life's plans tend to always go up in smoke. For me I had it all worked out.....by 25 I was going to be successful and married and living in a fabulous house. Fast forward 11 years and I can certainly say that didn't happen. But who can really say that they hit each and every goal post they set themselves as young adults? Very few I would like to hazard a guess at. But does that really matter in the end? The successful jobs and big houses are not worth anything without love, family and friendship to add meaning and purpose to life.
Which brings me nicely to Aine Toner's fabulous book The Four of Us. It's a substantial read that's for sure but the amount of love, heartache, humour and humiliation are boundless and I was picked up and taken on a roller coaster of emotions that have left me feeling bereft now that the book has come to an end. I found myself extremely invested in the lives of the four friends and was reading with such passion desperate to know what would happen next, which says it all about the writing style of the author.
I have never come across a book where a friendship group take a break from each other as a whole which initially piqued my interest as to the reasons why. From there my intrigue grew considerably as I found out that each and every girl harboured a secret they had yet to reveal and I spent the entire book playing amateur detective in a bid to try and figure things out for myself.
This book is written with such love and care and the world's surrounding Lucy, Christine, Colette and Pippa are created with profound detail and emotion which pulled me into their entangled web of life and didn't let go until the concluding pages. This is a story of life in all its ugly glory and it's a one that is not to be missed. I wholeheartedly enjoyed this book and feel it deserves so much love and adoration.
