A Way Back Home – Alison Sherlock
About the book
What happens when two lost souls find themselves?
After recent heartbreak, Skye Jackson finds herself homeless and on the road with only a classic Airstream trailer to her name. A surprise inheritance of a rundown little lodge in the grounds of beautiful Willow Tree Hall forces her to change her plans. However there is a problem...
The lodge is co-owned by care-free, playboy Will Harris, who finds himself unemployed after a recent tabloid scandal.
Skye desperately wants a home to call her own and needs to move on as quickly as possible. Will doesn’t want to stay at his family home either to face the ghosts of his past. So they decide to put aside their differences and renovate the cottage together.
But when a storm hits, Skye and Will are forced to stay on to ensure that an important wedding goes ahead. Can Skye finally find a home of her own? Can Will stop running from his past and help out his family when they need him the most?
The magic of winter at Willow Tree Hall is about to change everything...
Perfect for fans of Jill Mansell and Carole Matthews.
My Review
This was my first visit to Willow Tree Hall and I have to say that I loved every minute of my time spent in this gorgeous pocket of the world. The setting was simply gorgeous and the rural atmosphere added charm and style to the story. But even though this is the third installment in this series I didn't once feel that I was left on the back foot as the writing was warm and inviting leaving me feeling like I was spending time catching up with old friends.
Skye was the perfect character to pick up and place in this setting with her purple hair and hippie style to offset the rustic charms seen on the Earl of Cranley's estate. We first meet Skye at a crossroads in her life, so used to looking after everyone else and putting the needs of others first she is now in a lonely place wanting security, romance and a dream to believe in, she is just the easiest of characters to fall in love with. Skye and Will's relationship gets off to a complicated start in the form of an Aston Martin and a gamekeeper's lodge but like Skye, Will is also at a turning point in life sparking new but not unwanted ideas about his future. Their chemistry is electric and feisty at times, due to stubborn natures but it was pure joy to witness a new and exciting relationship simmer gently beneath the surface ensuring a need to read on to see if they would get their perfect ending.
A Way Back Home is like being wrapped up in a big cosy blanket on a cold winter's night. It's heartwarming and filled with love from start to finish. I'm off now to find the previous books in this series to prolong my stay at Willow Tree Hall for that little bit longer.
